Birthday Freebies (PNW version)

August is my birthday month and every year on my birthday I drive around town collecting birthday freebies. I saw recently online that these people are called "birthday freeloaders". I didn't know whether to laugh or be offended.

I prefer the “no purchase required” treats, or else they’re not really freebies are they?

Caveat: For most of these freebies, you have to download the store’s app and create an account. Listen, I know you’re drowning in apps and promotional emails, but what’s a few more to get these goodies for $0?

Caution: taking your kids along could result in additional spending and/or sharing of your loot. You’ve been warned 🙃

Here are my faves to hit up in Oregon near the Portland metro area:

Best practices:

1. Assume most freebies require apps these days. All of the above do, except for Pips

2. Don’t wait until the day of your birthday to download the apps. It could delay your reward by 1 day. Download them a couple weeks beforehand if you can.

3. Most of the above items are high in sugar. It’s an all-day sugar high on my birthday, I bring my kids with me and they think it’s the best thing ever. Do what’s right for you!

4. I did my best to update this list for 2025, but feel free to verify these before you embark on your birthday freebie adventure. Things like these are subject to change.

It’s sure fun to cash in on these freebies! Want to splurge next year on your birthday? Work with a financial coach in Oregon to put a plan together for your money so you can save ahead for special occasions like birthdays or travel.
